In the story, The Lord of the Rings, you start the journey with the little Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins of the Shire on his 111th birthday. As he celebrates, Gandalf the Grey has come to join him with fireworks. But during the party, Bilbo plays a sneaky prank with the people, telling him that he will be off on another adventure. As he says his goodbyes, he puts on the One Ring and vanishes. Gandalf had figured out how he did such a thing, so he had a talk with him. But the One Ring has a dark past of its own. It is the ring that the dark lord Sauron had forged on his own to control the people of Middle Earth. On the ring, it had flames written on it saying, “One ring to rule them all. One ring to find them. One ring to bring them all. And in the darkness bind them.” So, Bilbo knew what to do and gave the ring to Frodo before it poisoned his mind. But when the Ring had passed on to Frodo, things go bad around him. He finds himself meeting with a Ranger from the North. Strider is what they called him, but as they get to know him, they start calling him by his rightful name, Aragon. He takes Frodo and his friends to shelter with the elves and right then is when the real journey starts. As they discuss of what to do with the Ring, Lord Elrond, Lord of the Elves, starts creating a fellowship of the ring. They then begin their journey to Mordor.
